Full flat sheets measure 81 x 96 inches or 205 x 243 cm. Some people confuse them with the twin flat sheets. The twin sheets are 66 x 96 inches (or 167 x 243 cm). The X-long twin is 66 x 102 inches or 167 x 259 cm. Procuring these sheets is easy, but you’ll need to do some research to get the appropriate sheets.
Thread Counts
When you shop for bed sheets, you might see numbers beside it (280, 300 etc). These are the thread count numbers. The thread count expresses the number of threads set per square inch. Higher thread counts will make the flat sheets softer.
It can also make the sheets more durable. Many buyers today get 280 count flat sheets. The 300 to 400 count sheets are even more comfortable. The premium or luxury sheets have thread counts of 500 and over.
Thread counts in full flat sheets (and other sheets for that matter) however, are not the only factors. The thread used is also important. If the right thread is used, flat sheets will still be soft even if the thread count is low.
Materials
Various types of materials are used in the production of flat sheets. The best you can find is Egyptian cotton. The extra long fibers make the material stand out. It makes the material soft and durable. Other high quality materials include silk and cashmere.
There are also flat sheets made from combed cotton. This material is glossier than ordinary cotton. Supima cotton is also made from long fibers like Egyptian cotton. Other widely used materials are bamboo fibers, rayon and linen. There are also materials that can make the sheets disposable.
When it comes to materials, it is often a matter of personal preference. The thread count is far more important.
Tips
Go over the product description thoroughly. Besides the thread count and the material, check if the flat sheets are machine washable. Assess the size too.
The figures mentioned above are US sizes. But this may not be the case in other countries. It’s better to be sure so go over the numbers. Of course these sheets are available in assorted colors too.
If buying full flat sheets, it’s a good idea to read online reviews. The reason is that not all product descriptions are accurate. If you read what the customers say, at least you’ll get an inkling of what the product is like.
