Before you begin to buy your mattress and bedroom linens, it is important that you know the exact dimensions of the type of bed that you have. While there are standard sizes that beds come in, there are longer and wider versions of these standard beds to give consumers more options when deciding on the bed size that will give them the most comfort when in slumber.
Measurements of a King bed are typically around 198 centimeters in width by 203 centimeters in length; however, there is a longer King-sized bed and this is the California King bed which is 13 centimeters longer.
This type however, is not as wide as the regular King-sized bed, about 16 centimeters smaller in width. This puts the bed’s measurements at 182 centimeters wide and 213 centimeters long.
Taking Bed Measurements
To be on the safe side, you may want to get the measurements of your bed yourself. You will only need a tape measure, a notepad and a pen or pencil. Start by measuring the length of your bed. Place your tape measure on one end of the bed and stretch it all the way to the other end to get the exact length.
Write down the measurement on your notepad and then start measuring the width of the bed, again; from one end to the next but this time, measure horizontally. Write down once again the measurement on your notepad.
You may want to put down the measurements in inches as well as centimeters just so you have both values when you start looking for your mattress and bedroom linens. This will make for easier conversion should the dimensions of the mattress or linens come in either inches or centimeters.
Find the Right Mattress and Sheets
If you are going to be shopping for your mattress and sheets in land-based bedding outlets, you may want to bring your tape measure with you. While you do have the measurements on paper, it would still help to have the tape measure handy should you want to be as precise as possible when checking for mattress and linen sizes.
On the other hand, if you are going to be shopping online, you want to make sure that other than having the right dimensions; you have the option to return the items in exchange for something else should the size turn out to be the wrong fit.
Online stores usually accommodate returns so if you find one that does not entertain returns or has a strict return policy; you can check other online stores that are more welcoming when it comes to returns.
